Artist Statement

Photography is both an excuse and a method for exploring the world around me. Black and white photography allows enough abstraction for me to interpret a scene without removing its veracity. It allows me to share something of a place and of myself at the same time: to create a visual artifact of an experience.

I work primarily with 35mm film and print in a conventional darkroom and occasionally with digital medium. Travel and outdoor activities provide most of my subjects. I like to find the romantic aspects of landscape and architecture but believe that the most interesting and unique photographs are images of people.
