Sarah Dillon - BiographySarah Dillon grew up in Yakima, WA where, as a teenager, she dreamed of being a professional artist. She received her BA from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. Dillon attended a study abroad program in Cork, Ireland where her fiddle playing began to flourish and influence her visual work. Dillon went on to take a position as the Public Programs Coordinator at Tacoma Art Museum, where she was inspired by the artists such as Nathan Oliveira, who she had the privilege of working with. She left the museum to study under painters John Walker, Richard Ryan and printmaker Deborah Cornell at Boston University. During her time in Boston, Dillon acquired a strong curatorial base through graduate coursework taken in conjunction with the Museum of Fine Arts Contemporary Art Department and the MET Graduate Art Administration Program. Dillon received her Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Boston University, before moving to Seattle.Dillon boasts a consistently growing exhibition record. In 2007, a series of Dillon’s woodblock prints were installed at the Carillon Gallery in Fort Worth, TX in an exhibition that included four Guggenheim award winning artists. She gave a lecture about artistic language development through the process of printmaking as a guest speaker at the college. In 2007, Dillon also completed a public project commissioned by Pike Place Market Foundation celebrating the centennial of the market, and held several exhibitions of work at Gallery 110 in Seattle. In 2008, Dillon exhibited at Gallery XIV in Boston, MA as a part of the A Politic exhibition. The exhibition was featured in The Wall Street Journal, Artscope Magazine, MSNBC, Imagine Arts, NY online publication, Boston Globe and various international publications referencing art and politics. In 2008, Dillon also exhibited at the Two Wall Gallery on Vashon Island, WA in The Art of Democracy, a national coalition of exhibitions at various galleries around the country. She presented works in several group exhibitions at Gallery 110, as well as a solo loft exhibition. Dillon participated in a group exhibition at the Allied Arts Gallery in Yakima, WA in early fall entitled Originally From…, and she presented a solo exhibition of mixed media drawings and prints at the Helen S. Smith Gallery at Green River Community College. In the fall, Dillon wrote an article as a guest curator in Curator’s Eye for the November 2008 issue of City Arts Magazine. Sarah Dillon’s work is represented by Gallery 110 in Seattle. Dillon currently operates a freelance teaching artist business in Seattle, teaching privately as well as contracting on projects with organizations such as Seniors Making Art, a non-profit organization started by Dale Chihuly, and Art With Heart, using art as a means for self expression and healing amongst disabled or terminally ill children. Dillon is the acting director and a current board member for Gallery 110 and teaches drawing and design as an adjunct faculty member at Green River Community College. |
