Ann Maki - Biography

Ms. Maki has worked with fabrics, threads and yarns most of her life. Her grandmother taught her the basics of sewing and knitting at an early age and inspired much of her design work.  She has constructed clothing for herself since her teen years. With a fashion merchandising and design degree from Washington State University, she modified and altered clothing for people with physical disabilities in the early 1980s.

Ms. Maki began her art career as a quilter 1993, making traditional bed quilts. Fiber art and wearable art have been her focus since 1997 and the current line of two-dimensional works began in 2004.

Early works run the gamut from traditional pieced bed quilts to whole-cloth quilted vests and artquilts.  She was a finalist at the Association of Pacific Northwest Quilters show in 2000, 2002 and 2004.

She has exhibited in several juried art shows in western Washington State. She has participated in group shows in a number of venues, including the Nordic Heritage Museum, Artfx Studio and Gallery and Gallery 110 in Seattle, Sixth Street Gallery in Vancouver, and Art Port Townsend in Port Townsend,
