Mistie Erickson - Biography

Mistie Erickson received a BA from Pitzer College in Claremont, California and a BLA (Landscape Architecture) from the University of Washington. She attended the Junior Year Abroad program through NYU in Madrid, Spain where she studied art history in the Prado Museum. As a landscape architecture student, Mistie participated in art classes with George Tsutikawa and Norman Taylor.

Following graduation from the University of Washington, Mistie earned art credits from Saddleback College in Mission Viejo and from Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa. She attended Cornish Institute of Allied Arts in Seattle studying with Charles Stokes, Peter Millet, Claudia Hollander, and John Overton. In addition, Mistie attended summer art classes at the University of Washington including painting with Spencer Mosley and printmaking with Kurt Labitzke. Mistie also attended 16 semester classes at Seattle’s School of Visual Concepts. At SVC the classes included painting with Nancy Johnson and Gene McMahon and printmaking with Jackie Barnett.

Mistie’s other endeavors include parenting two children and working as special education teacher for Seattle Public Schools including four years at the Youthcare’s Orion Center for homeless youth.

Mistie has been in various group shows including the Edmond Art Festival, Pacific Northwest Annual at Bellevue, Seattle Design Association 12 x 12 Auction, and Mercer Island Visual Arts League Summer Arts Festival. She had four solo shows: Brother’s Bistro in Occidental Square, Attachmate Corporation in Bellevue, Sixth Avenue Plaza Building Lobby in Seattle, and the at the Cunningham Gallery at the University of Washington’s Women Center. Her work is in private collections including two condo lobbies in downtown Seattle.

Mistie is a Seattle native. Since she was a child she has spent summers in British Columbia. Recent travels include Venice, Tuscany, Rome, Amsterdam and Mexico.
